Graduate studies programmes leading towards the conferment of
advanced Diplomas, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees
at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) began soon after its
establishment in May 1970. Since then, the demand for graduate
studies in Economics, Islamic Studies, Education, Science, Medicine,
Business Administration, Engineering, Social Sciences & Humanities,
Language, Literature and Culture, has intensified. Thus in June
1983, UKM established the Centre for Graduate Management, and among
its functions were to co-ordinate, develop and enhance the graduate
studies programmes. The Senate approves the policies and regulations
applicable to graduate studies at UKM, while the Dean of the
Centre for Graduate Management is responsible for the administration
and co-ordination of the graduate studies programmes in co-operation
with the Deans and Directors of various Faculties, Institutes
and Centres. Consequently, candidates have access to an environment
that will allow them to become scholars in their respective
areas of specialisation within the context of an excellent intellectual
and academic tradition.
